Frequently asked questions

Why do images appear two or more times in your catalogue?

Usually it is because the image has been released in more than one size so you can then choose the one that is right for you. Very occasionally different publishers offer the same print and you are free to choose the one you prefer.

Why are no sizes given for framed prints in the art previewer?

We have over 25,000 prints and they vary greatly in their layout with borders and titles to which it is the convention to cut the mount to exclude so it is nearly impossible to say exactly. The "print only" is an excellent guide to your minimum framed print size and prints without borders may be 6cm extra all around as we allow for the mount. The mount sets off a print and spaces it from the glazing of the frame for better presentation and preservation. Don't forget to add the width of your chosen frame.

Can I have more product information?

When browsing our catalogue a wealth of information is supplied but use the question mark icons and "read more" links for extra detailed information on frames and the like.

How long will delivery take?

For your photos delivery is normally 2-10 working days depending on workload and product type. More accurate guides for individual products can be found in your basket. We will notify you of any unexpected delays which are very rare.

We also work with a number of print publishers who vary in the time taken to despatch prints. For many items delivery estimates are given in your basket. Again, longer than 10 working days is rare and it is usually much quicker.

If timescales are a particular concern you can always contact us and ask if your deadline is possible, we can usually prioritise a small number of orders.

How much is delivery and what do the charges represent?

Delivery varies from basket to basket according to content and the charges set by the publisher of each print, not always by us.

Typically delivery charges are designed to cover picking, packaging and courier costs. Frequently our own charges do not cover the cost of the courier but we are able to average the charges out and try to keep delivery charges as low as we can so there is no suspicion we are hiding prices.

Some firms offer free delivery but it is certain to say that delivery is rarely ever free and results in more expensive or lower quality products.

It isn’t realistic for most customers but it is possible to collect framed prints and photo art from our offices and workshop in Norton near York. Choose the collect option in our store and arrange a time to collect by phone or e-mail. Alternatively if not an option pay for delivery and we will refund it when you collect (excludes orders for prints only).

Will my art be ready to hang?

All products are supplied ready to hang e.g. with picture cord or canvas hangers. Wall hooks and nails may be required but we cannot know your wall type so do not supply wall fittings which are available from all good hardware stores.

How do I upload a photo for print?

First of all go to "Your Photos" from the site top menu.

There are further instructions there. Click the browse button on that page and look through your computer folders and files until you find the photo you wish to upload. Click on it then when the path/filename shows in the window click "upload and customise". Once your photo is uploaded you will see it on the screen in our editing tool (if not then try again before contacting us to resolve the problem).

How do I transfer a physical photo?

If you are starting with a physical photograph, please scan your image into a scanner at a minimum of 100 dpi at the approximate size you wish to print. If not possible then scan at actual size at a high resolution such as 600-1200 dpi. The resulting JPEG (or .jpg) file should be 1-5MB in size ideally for high quality and quick upload.

How do I get the photo from my camera to the computer?

Most digital cameras are sold with a connecting cable and software enabling you to automatically extract the photos from your camera. Typically, the images are then saved to "My Pictures" folder (PC) or "Pictures" folder (Mac).

What is the recommended resolution of the photo I upload?

The resolution quality from most modern digital cameras is extremely suitable for digital reproduction. However, for best results, we recommend using a camera that is at least 3 mega pixels and a file that is at least 750kb in size. Photo art produced from images that are at least 1.5 megabytes look extremely good.

You can check your photo’s file size by right-clicking on the image, then selecting Properties, where the size will be displayed.

What if my photo has red-eye, blemishes, colour cast?

As standard we remove red-eye and obvious blemishes as well as optimizing colours on an individual basis. This is a generous free courtesy on our behalf attempting to delight the customer and differentiate ourselves from other photo printers. We make no guarantees that if you send the photo for print a second time it will be the same as photos are subjective (please let us know beforehand if you intend to repeat order and we can keep a copy on file.) Also if there are any matters which concern you add special instructions to your order or contact us beforehand.

Can I use a professional photograph?

Yes, although you should have permission to print any images from the photographer/copyright owner. Where you have taken a photograph outside of employment you are the copyright owner but photos taken by professionals or as part of your job may not belong to you – it depends on the contract between you.

What if my photo is an unconventional size?

All photos can be cropped to fit our product sizing after uploading to our site. We use square, 4:3, 3:2, 2:1 and 3:1 aspect ratios to provide a very large range of sizes. To keep stocks and prices down and keep ordering simple we do not offer unconventional aspects online. Most of our products can be made to size easily on request e.g. framed prints. Some like Perspex require additional stock or processes so while possible do incur extra charges. Please ask for a quote.

What is your return policy?

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions and our 100% satisfaction guarantee terms available from the link on our homepage.

Will my Photo Art be the same as the image I see online?

Generally yes but see above about larger file sizes producing better enlargements. Also be aware that colours vary from monitor to monitor and while your monitor will be a reasonable guide, we cannot know what you see on screen. Our monitors are professionally profiled and we attempt to ensure that standard photographs are within a normal or optimal range for colours and brightness. Very few people are ever disappointed with the results from the service.

Do you supply to trade accounts?

Yes, we can supply Photo to Art software solutions and physical products for trade accounts. Please contact us for our latest prices or for further information.
